President Announces Transformative Change in Development Policy

Yesterday at the United Nations, President Obama called for an exciting transformation of the business of international development that challenges the world to modernize foreign assistance for the best. The plan is closely aligned with Oxfam's recommendations to achieve the Millennium Development Goals and lift more people out of poverty. Hundreds of Minnesotans signed a petition asking the president to take this exact kind of action! The president's proclamation and subsequent white papers are built around four pillars:
  1. Measure success by outcomes, not outputs;
  2. Create lasting paths out of poverty instead of temporary fixes;
  3. Strive toward broad-based economic growth;
  4. Hold all parties responsible and accountable.
Oxfam America promptly issued this press release, commending the address and citing the dire urgency of the initiative's broader implementation. We look forward to seeing the Administration deliver on this incredibly promising policy overhaul, and will continue our campaign for lasting solutions to poverty and injustice on all fronts with vigor.
