Success at the Green Jobs Rally & Urban Wildland Half Marathon

Oxfam Action Corps – Minnesota has been busy spreading the word on poverty and climate change!
On July 27, the Blue Green Alliance (which includes the Sierra Club and the United Steelworkers) held a Green Jobs Rally at Saint Paul College. Oxfam Action Corps – MN volunteers were there to put a human face on climate change. It was an exciting event with speakers Jim Hightower and others advocating long-term solutions to the looming climate change crisis by investing in clean and renewable energy. Many people stopped by our table to discuss adaptation, sign the Climate Equity Campaign petition, and learn more about what Oxfam is doing around the world. Our thanks to the organizers for including Oxfam.

The following weekend, we woke up bright and early to talk climate change with participants and friends of the Urban Wildland Half Marathon in Richfield, MN. The race has been commended by Runner’s World Magazine for its “greenness,” and we could certainly see why. With compostable cups and organic food, organizers and runners did their part to keep it green, and many people expressed their support for Oxfam and its mission of finding lasting solutions to global poverty. We’re grateful to the race’s organizers for including us, and our congratulations to them on a very successful event.

Thank you to everyone who helped and to all of those we met at these events. With your support, we are well on our way to making adaptation a priority of the climate change agenda. Learn about how you can make a difference with us by sending an email or joining or listserv.
