Farm Bill Postmortem

Many of you first began following this blog during the campaign to reform the Farm Bill. Sadly, Congress failed to seize the opportunity to reform the 2008 Farm Bill, maintaining the trade-distorting subsidies causing poverty abroad and disadvantaging struggling family farmers in the United States.

Minnesota's own Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy issued this wrap-up on the bill's impact on international trade talks [link to PDF]. Read our recap, including a thanks to everyone who did make a difference, on this earlier post.

The farm bill is only renewed every five years, so the fight to reform it is on the shelf for now. In the meantime, you can count on Oxfam Action Corps - Minnesota advocating to make trade fair at every opportunity!
