STrib Adds to Farm Bill Scrutiny

Newspapers across America are using words like 'scandal', 'business-as-usual', 'boondoggle', 'disappointing', and 'destructive' to describe the 2007 Farm Bill passed by the US Senate Ag Committee last week. The Minnesota's own Star Tribune helped to lift the Farm Bill's veil of collusion in an article entitled, Farm bill beneficiaries include urban dwellers. The Farm Bill's influence over the American diet is mentioned in another the Star Tribune article, A kernal of truth? Nation's obese are corn-fed.

Also today, Bloomberg outlined how Texas cotton's subsidies help destroy Africa's cheaper farmers; editorial boards of the Washington Post, Des Moines Register, the North Platte Bulletin (NE), and more are expressing frustration over the lack of meaningful reform in the Senate Ag Committee's work. The Cleveland Plain Dealer asks the Senate to "...rework the committee's version to truly reform the nation's partnership with its farmers."

Remind your senators of this media outcry by adding your voice to it – and before it's too late. The Senate is expected to vote on the Farm Bill next week, possibly Tuesday, so please contact your senators today and ask them to reduce the trade-distorting subsidies that fund extravagance for the few at the expense of struggling disadvantaged farmers across the globe.
