Minnesotans Speak Out on Farm Bill Reform

Hundreds learned about the need to reform the 2007 Farm Bill earlier this weekend. Volunteers of the Oxfam Action Corps - Minnesota were on hand Saturday and Sunday at the Minneapolis Midtown Global Market, engaging the crowd on the exciting opportunity to reduce poverty abroad while helping the environment and small farms in Minnesota, all through properly reforming the 2007 Farm Bill.

Many visitors to the Global Market were already aware of the Farm Bill's role in impoverishing millions. People learning about the Farm Bill for the first time were often shocked to learn commodity subsidies reward corporate farms for wasteful overproduction that is dumped into the global market, devastating farmers in lesser-developed states through unfair trade. It was inspiring to see so many take up a pen, asking congress to correct this injustice!

OAC - MN thanks everyone who came by to chat with us, take some reading material, and write a letter to congress on this critical issue. It's clear that Minnesotans care deeply about meaningful Farm Bill reform in 2007.
