Climate Change Legislation Passes Senate EPW Committee

Our efforts to pass comprehensive climate change legislation in the US Congress are paying off! On November 5, the Senate passed the Clean Energy Jobs and American Power Act (S.1733) through the Environment and Public Works Committee. We applaud Chairwoman Boxer and Minnesota’s Senator Amy Klobuchar for their votes and leadership in the EPW committee. Urgent action by the US is needed to address the impacts of climate change, especially leading up to the Copenhagen negotiations next month, and Chairwoman Boxer, Senator Klobuchar and nine other senators acted accordingly. In a press release, Oxfam America’s President Raymond C. Offenheiser made the following statement:

“Action must not be delayed on an issue that members from both sides of the aisle recognize as dire. This bill moves forward on a long-term vision of creating a cleaner world, spurring global economic growth, and building resilience to the serious impacts of climate change already being felt around the world.”
